Young makers program A Corps et à Cri — Mali-Benin 2010
Part of the LGC program Identité Culturelle en Mouvement was an exchange between students of the Conservatoire in Mali and Compagnie Walô from Benin. Six dance students from the Conservatoire and six dancers from Walô worked for seven weeks in Bamako under the guidance of LGC to create seven short choreographies. The program consisted of classes traditional dance from both countries and contemporary dance and composition classes. Seven young choreographers from Benin (Rachelle Agbossou, Guillaume Niedjo, Franklin Senou, Horten Adjovi) and Mali (Awa Kébé, Hamadou Sanogo, Seydou Diarra) created their choreographies with a cast from both countries. Under guidance of designer Pink Steenvoorden they also made their own light design. The performance was presented twice at the Musée National in Bamako for an ecstatic crowd and followed by two presentations at the Festival sur le Niger in Ségou. Two more performances were presented at the biennial festival FITHEB in Cotonou, Benin. The choreographies of Niedjo and Kébé were selected to be part of the international program Ondulation of LGC and Compagnie Walô presented in the Netherlands.
