Risaleh 2007
Le Grand Cru is a partner in the Dancing on the Edge festival to present contemporary dance and theatre from the Middle East in Holland (www.dancingonthe edge.nl). For the first edition in 2007 Le Grand Cru cooperated with Ramad Dance, Syria. The production coincided with the festivities of 400 years of consular relations between the Netherlands and the Syrian city of Aleppo. This is where the premiere took place and after that the production was performed a couple of times in Damascus. A Dutch tour followed. Risaleh consists of two parts: Who opens the door by choreographer Lawand Hajo and Sounds of water and more by Le Grand Cru. Along metaphorical images the choreographers created with the dancers personal images and happenings in the complexity of modern Arab life.

Review
"The two choreographies display in a perfect way the mixed feelings of wishing to speak out loud, but not too loud about discontent and satisfaction at the same time. In sounds of water and more there is always the threat of war (toy soldiers crawling hilariously) and the voice of religion beautifully and neutrally displayed by stylized prayer movements on the sounds of water drops the only humans need we all share."
Mirjam van der Linden, Volkskrant, 11 December 2007
