Ondulation Compagnie Walô from Benin in West Africa, which has been working with Le Grand Cru intensively since four years, presented their work for the first time in the Netherlands with the programme Ondulation. Last February Ondulation had her African premiere in a packed Centre Culturel Français in Cotonou, capital of Benin. As a result of the success, especially amongst a young urban audience, a tour on African festivals is in preparation.
Dance/Devotion/Deviation In November 2011 a second video installation will be created on the theme dance and religion with dancers and choreographers in The Netherlands with a non-western religious background. It will be presented in Theater De Regentes Den Haag.
10 years of LGC On the 29th of November 2010 Le Grand Cru celebrated its 10th anniversary of international cooperation with artistic partners from all over the world. After a working session with sponsors, policy makers and colleagues the performance Ondulation and the video installation were presented for an enthusiastic crowd. The presentation of our booklet Travellers in Motion was one of the highlights. This booklet in Dutch, English, Spanish and French with enchanting pictures sums up the methods and achievements of Le Grand Cru and can be ordered via info at legrandcru-dance.nl (€ 7,50).
Benin and Cuba During the period 2009 to 2011 Le Grand Cru realized the programme Identité Culturel en Mouvement. This training programme created exceptional results with the help of the trainers Joan van der Mast, Pink Steenvoorden, Marlies Gorissen, Erik Kaiel and the artistic direction Noortje Bijvoets and Feri de Geus. The regional project A Corps et á Cri has had a great visibility with a total of 3500 visitors at the Musée National de Mali, Festival sur Le Niger in Mali and the FITHEB festival in Benin. The educative performance Léwé executed by Compagnie Walô in all major cities of Benin has been seen by nearly 50.000 spectators. The preliminary research into similarities and differences between dance styles in Cuba and Benin culminated in a unique workshop in Havana with international partners Compagnie Walô from Benin and Escuela Nacional de Danza Moderna from Cuba. A plan for future cooperation between partners is being prepared.
